Our Principles

We are the Kansans for Higher Education Political Action Committee.

We are an independent organization of friends of Kansas State University and the University of Kansas throughout Kansas and the United States who believe the people of this state have no more important assets than the University of Kansas and Kansas State University.

We financially support and advocate for candidates for the Kansas Senate and Kansas House of Representatives who share this PAC’s views of higher education and believe in the importance of strong state funding for higher education in Kansas.

Workforce

Kansas State University and the University of Kansas provide the highly trained workforce that is vital to our state’s economy.  Workers who possess advanced skills and education help Kansas companies thrive, and they help attract new employers to the state, providing essential job growth.

K-State and KU provide young people access and opportunities to earn degrees and experiences that will help them succeed professionally and personally as productive community members and leaders throughout Kansas.

Research

K-State and KU are designated by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education as “R-1 Doctoral Universities – Very High Research Activity.”  Most of the research dollars that flow into these universities are new investments from federal agencies and out-of-state foundations, corporations and donors.  Research fuels start-up companies and jobs.

In addition, the people of Kansas benefit enormously by having two R-1 institutions in this state.

Improving the Lives of Kansans

A cancer patient in Kansas has a better chance of surviving because of the advanced research and clinical trials conducted at the National Cancer Institute-designated University of Kansas Cancer Center.

Farmers in Kansas, and the people they serve, benefit from the world-class research in animal health and food safety being conducted at Kansas State University.

Commitment

Students benefit enormously by receiving degrees of all kinds from these two institutions.

We are committed to telling these and many more stories about the important work of these great universities.

But our commitment does not end there.  We are avid supporters of higher education in general in Kansas.  Our state will prosper when its students have a variety of high-quality higher education opportunities, regardless of whether those opportunities are offered at another state institution of higher education or at a community college.  We are committed to advancing all these programs.
