Support Legislation Permitting Name, Image, and
Likeness Compensation to Kansas Collegiate Student-Athletes

A bill being considered in the Kansas Legislature would have a big impact on student-athletes at Kansas State University, the University of Kansas, and higher education institutions throughout Kansas.

Kansas House Bill 2264 would permit collegiate athletes at a Kansas university to be compensated for the use of their name, image, or likeness (NIL). Recently, the Kansas House passed HB 2264 with a large majority. The bill is now before the Kansas Senate and was considered at a hearing before the Senate Federal and State Affairs Committee last week on March 18.

By permitting NIL compensation, the Kansas Legislature would give student-athletes the opportunity to build a personal brand and image while competing in collegiate athletics and pursuing their academic careers. Additionally, passing NIL legislation levels the playing field for Kansas student-athletes because several states have already passed NIL laws permitting their athletes to receive compensation this year. Failure to pass NIL legislation in Kansas will result in a recruiting disadvantage for K-State and KU.
